About Us

Imagine a small group of people that seeks to help each other in life by following Jesus according to what is recorded in the Bible.  Imagine that these small groups grow and multiply to help other people in the journey of life.  Now, imagine that we call these groups, The Journey.

What is the motivation behind The Journey?  Jesus instructs us to love God with all of our heart, soul, and mind (Matthew 22:37).  He also wants us to love the people around us (Matthew 22:39).  Love is a compelling motivation within The Journey, which propels Journeyers to come alongside others in life wherever they are.

What are some of the values of The Journey?

v      We value Jesus’ example and use the Bible as our primary guide in the journey of life.

v      We value prayer as a way of talking to Jesus, our guide.

v      We value reaching out to new people who are not yet part of a loving, Jesus-centred community.

v      We value small groups as a good forum for helping each other in life as we follow Jesus.

v      We value intentional multiplication of small groups as a way of coming alongside more people in life (once a group grows to 20 people, it should be close to multiplying into a second group).

v      We value individual involvement where groups recognize the strengths of group members and encourage them to serve in keeping with their strengths.

v      We value healthy groups where people increasingly follow Jesus as described in the Bible, build each other up by fully using their gifts and abilities, and help people locally and around the world.

Journey groups typically meet weekly, although Journeyers meet informally at other times, as well.  When the groups meet, they often focus on building friendships, thanking God for who He is and what He has done, talking to God, searching a part of the Bible for guidance, and talking about how they can help people in their local community and around the world.

Journey groups can meet almost anywhere.  The existing groups meet in homes, but they could meet in other places like workplaces, school classrooms, pubs, coffee shops, etc.

Those who want to start a Journey group must attend a training event for catalysts that will help them start and grow a healthy Journey group.  They must also sign a Journey covenant where they agree to the values of The Journey and the statement of faith of the Evangelical Free Church of Canada.  The Journey servant team provides ongoing training, support, and accountability for catalysts as they start small Journey groups.
